Frequently asked questions
Our meat
Where do you source your meat from?
We source our meat as locally as possible whilst maintaining the animal welfare and husbandry standards we want. All our meat is sourced from the UK.
We visit all the farms and abattoirs in our supply chain to make sure the standards we require are met all the way through.
What does high welfare mean?
Simply put – high welfare meat means that the animal husbandry standards are top notch.
The way the farmer looks after the animals is to the highest standard. No growth hormones and the animal has never been mishandled or mistreated throughout its life.
What does locally sourced mean?
Locally sourced means we source products from the closest supplier we can whilst maintaining our sourcing standards. How far this is from us varies from product to product. Generally, the more suppliers that produce that product the closer we can source it to our location.
What does native breed mean?
A breed of animal that is indigenous to this country. For example, the beef that we supply is Sussex breed because it is indigenous to Surrey, where we are located, as well as Sussex and Hampshire.
What does free range mean?
The animals are allowed and have the choice to roam freely in a natural outdoor environment.
Is your meat organic?
Not as standard. We can supply organic if requested but generally our meat is high welfare and free range as opposed to being certified as organic.
Usually the reason for our meat not being certified as organic is because the land that animals are raised on isn’t classified as organic, rather than their feed not being organic.
The animal husbandry standards of our products are often higher than meat which is classed as organic.
Is your meat halal?
No.
Can I freeze your meat?
Yes. All of our products come with a label with three dates on it:
- When it is produced
- When you should use it by if it’s fresh
- How long you can keep it in your freezer
